Level Energy has helped its client, Keystone Power Ltd, win half of the contracts awarded in National Grid's September tender for Firm Frequency Response (FFR).
Level Energy recently completed an upgrade programme for the Keystone Power site and the first stage is to bring the site into the UK's frequency response ancillary service. The contracted revenues will give a four month payback on the site upgrade cost.
The site has been providing dispatched STOR services to National Grid during winter months. Upgrading the plant to offer automatic frequency services all year round, Level Energy will achieve higher revenues for Keystone Power. In this mode, the site also runs less hours, thereby reducing emissions.
Keystone Power Director, Alan Yazdabadi, commented:
'By taking a fresh look at the plant and technology, Level Energy has maximised efficiency and effectiveness in providing ancillary service to the UK grid. This contributes to the UK's transition to a greener grid, lowers carbon emissions and provides more plant margin and security of supply by displacing service from large generators.
'In so doing, Level Energy is achieving a better payback for investors while minimising emissions from the plant, a great win-win.'
